Tanzania: Govenor jailed for life.

A UN court has sentenced the former governor of the capital Rwanda, Kigali, to life in prison for his role in the 1994 genocide. The international court, which is based in Arusha, Tanzania, convicted Tharcisse Renzaho on five counts including genocide, rape and murder. Nigeria: Scans to determine players age.

Players taking part in the Under-17 World Cup will be subjected to MRI bone scans to determine their ages.  Accusations of age cheating have blighted Nigeria’s success at international age group tournaments in recent years.

Kenya: Illegal ivory seized.

The authorities here have seized 300kg (660 lbs) of illegal ivory hidden in coffins on a plane bound for Laos. The haul included 16 elephant tusks and black rhinoceros horns. DRC: Mobutu Sese Seko assets siezed.

A Swiss court has ruled that the assets of Mobutu Sese Seko, former leader of Zaire, now the DR Congo, who died in 1997, be returned to his family.  The court rejected an appeal to extend a freeze on assets worth more than $6m that are held in Swiss bank accounts.
