Law firm Eversheds continues to expand its operations in Africa by joining forces with leading Durban based law firm Knight Turner, it was announced on 2nd June.
The affiliation will see the independent Durban firm re-brand as Eversheds KZN with a dramatically expanded scope and reach of its product offering, while retaining its reputation for personalised service.
The move follows the formation of Eversheds’ Pan-African strategy, which since 2013 saw the firm tie up with Mahons Attorneys in South Africa, giving the firm bases in Johannesburg, Cape Town and Port Louis in Mauritius. Eversheds was also joined by El Heni in Tunisia, which now practises as Eversheds El Heni in Tunis and also by Eversheds CWA Morocco with offices in Casablanca and Tangier. Eversheds now operates 8 offices in Africa.
Last year also witnessed the creation of Eversheds African Law Institute (EALI), an organisation designed to share best practices to promote and deliver the highest standards of legal service across Africa. EALI has since experienced rapid growth and to date has a network of 33 members in 37 offices across 31 African countries. It is the largest platform of legal services across the continent.
Bryan Hughes, Eversheds Chief Executive commented:
“This latest agreement with established firm Knight Turner, forms a key part of our Pan African strategy as we firmly establish a presence in South Africa. Durban offers a strong commercial and logistics hub and we look forward to working collaboratively with the team at Eversheds KZN to offer a seamless client experience.”
Knight Turner’s founding partner Andrew Turner commented:
“This affiliation will give us increased reach, within South Africa, Africa and beyond. It will also vastly increase our access to legal knowledge and resources.
“We will retain our distinctive culture and value system, but operate under the global Eversheds brand which will give us a unique competitive advantage. Our clients value the personalised, specialist attention they receive from us. Now, thanks to our affiliation with Eversheds, and in particular with the existing Eversheds Southern African presence, our clients will enjoy the same level of one-on-one attention, with all the additional clout of a powerful global team at their disposal.”
